NO, IGRE is not a country or state in the bowels of the African forests, it is my favorite phrase for a year of amusing, funny, downright weird happenings. It stands for Incredible Gambling Roster of Events, short- IGRE. Well, I do not know about you, but 2007 proved to be a year of Poker IGRE.
First, my friend Steven, with an IQ a hair better than Forrest Gump, qualified to that year's WSOP, AFTER ATTEMPTING and failing to do so for 7 LONG years. I wonder if he paid somebody off, ehr, just a thought.
Second, because of the wonderful UIGEA (AH-HURM), a mass exodus happened, many Net rooms quitting their US-facing businesses. There were a few dishonest sites that saw this as the perfect opportunity to make money. Third, Jamie Gold issue kept on- he was sued for 50 percent of what he won in the 2006 WSOP victory.
Fourth on my poker IGRE narration- we have boredom with a cpital B. Somebody won in last year's WSOP in what I consider as the most boring Finals in recent memory, at least for the past decade. I think Jerry Yang would disagree, huh?
Fifth, finally tried to see if he (or she?) could scare Phil Laak, maybe due to the hood? This extornionist - I don't know if he got caught or not. If he (not Laak, the bad guy) is reading this, I have a suggestion- write a book about it and sell it to me. I know half a dozen publishers, you might get famous. Poker IGRE
